In class No. 2, presented by MAG, Bicocchi secures Italy’s first victory
Just as he did two years ago, Emilio Bicocchi claimed victory in the second prize on the first day of the CSIO in Rome – Piazza di Siena competition.
With a time of 24.16 seconds and a faultless round, the Tuscan rider from Follonica won the two-phase category (1.45m – €29,000, 69 starters) riding Hemerald d’Argonne, a French mare that did a consistent upgrade under his saddle.
For Bicocchi, who is competing in the Rome show jumping event for the twentieth time, this marks his eleventh victory at Piazza di Siena. The first one was a puissance class in 2005 and the most recent was in 2024.
“What can I say? I’m very pleased with Emerald. After winning another three-star CSIO event at Scuderia La Caccia two weeks ago, she has shown today that she can improve even further. I have two other Italian horses who are at her level, and I really hope that one of them will go on to compete in even more important events. However, I must thank the staff who helped me with the work at home and kept Emerald in excellent condition while I was away in the spring. This is evident from the results I’ve achieved with her and the other horses since I came back.”
Bicocchi pipped Germany’s Sophie Hinners to the post with Diamanda 4 (0; 24.42), as well as another Italian rider, Lorenzo Correddu, who rode Dalakani Chardonnet. The pair are the Italian Under-25 champions.
