FONTANA DEI PUPAZZI
2025
The restoration of the Fontana dei Pupazzi took shape as one of the most evocative and recognisable landmarks of Villa Borghese, located beside the hemicycle of Piazza di Siena and returned to the public through a careful and respectful conservation project.
The intervention included the reconstruction of the central sculptural group — a vase with cherubs and dolphins stolen in 1983 — as well as the aesthetic recovery of surfaces and decorative elements. Structural issues that had compromised the fountain’s functionality over time were also resolved. In particular, leaks and water infiltration problems were eliminated, improving the system’s efficiency and ensuring more effective long-term preservation.
The fountain is now fully operational once again, thanks also to the introduction of a modern water recirculation system designed to optimise water management and reduce waste. This approach successfully combines historical preservation with technological innovation within a broader vision of environmental sustainability.
The restoration of the Fontana dei Pupazzi therefore represents a tangible act of stewardship and a meaningful enhancement of the site’s historic identity.
