FONTANA DEI CAVALLI MARINI
2026

Dating back to the late eighteenth century, the Fontana dei Cavalli Marini at Villa Borghese is a work of remarkable artistic and symbolic value, blending elements of Neoclassical design with decorative Rococo influences.

Over time, however, the monument suffered progressive deterioration caused by weather exposure, surface deposits and the formation of microfractures that compromised both its structural integrity and aesthetic legibility.

The restoration project was conceived to restore the fountain’s original formal and visual quality through a specialised and multi-layered intervention. The works included surface cleaning, consolidation of the stone materials and the recovery of decorative elements, all carried out using techniques fully compatible with the historic fabric of the monument.

Alongside the conservation works, technical solutions were introduced to improve the fountain’s structural stability and ensure its long-term protection. The project was completed with the installation of a modern water recirculation system designed to optimise water consumption and minimise waste.
