VALLE DEI PLATANI
2021

A major restoration and enhancement programme was carried out in the Valle dei Platani, one of the most environmentally valuable areas within Villa Borghese, home to eleven seventeenth-century plane trees of exceptional botanical and landscape significance.

Pruning and remediation works were conducted according to scientific conservation principles, with the aim of preserving the health and structural stability of the historic trees. The interventions reduced the risk of collapse, improved plant vitality and ensured public safety without compromising the ecological balance of the area.

At the same time, the soil underwent an extensive environmental remediation process to remove pollutants accumulated over time and restore favourable conditions for the ecosystem.

The project also introduced guided routes and educational tools enabling visitors to better understand the historical and natural importance of the valley. Protection and monitoring systems were implemented to safeguard the site over the long term.

A fundamental contribution came from the association Amici di Villa Borghese, which worked alongside public institutions in the care and enhancement of the area, promoting a participatory approach to the management of green heritage.
