International classes on day two at CSIO Rome, Piazza di Siena 2025 began at the Gallopatoio sand arena this morning with victory in the Telepass Accumulator for Spain’s Eduardo Alvarez Aznar and the 12-year-old gelding d’Orient Batilly.

The Gallopatoio is part of the Villa Borghese Public Park that has been restored with great care thanks to the PDS Green Project organised by FISE and Sport e Salute Spa. And despite early morning rain, spectators and supporters enthusiastically cheered on the 23 starters as the action got underway at 08.00.

Aznar skipped around the track with d’Orient Batilly in the winning time of 47.15 seconds to pin Sweden’s Petronella Andersson and Ollister du Lys into runner-up spot while Italy’s Fabio Brotto and Caio Largo lined up in third place.

Germany’s Jörne Sprehe and Starlinda finished fourth, Spain’s Armando Trapote and Gin Tonic van het Gerendal Z finished fifth and Argentina’s Martin Dopazo lined up in sixth spot with A.N. Barney.

Particularly pleased
Three-time Olympian Aznar was particularly pleased with today’s success.

“I am delighted with the result this morning. D’Orient Batilly is a horse I really like, he’s very competitive and I’m very happy because today the owners were here, they arrived last night, and they came out on this early morning to see him winning - even under the rain! It’s very special and I think they are going to be very happy!”, the 41-year-old rider said.

D’Orient Batilly is an experienced campaigner. “He has competed in Nations Cups and he was Spanish champion two years ago. He’s a horse that has jumped 4* and 5* Grand Prix classes. Today he jumped a smaller class because he hasn’t been competing for the last two months so he’s just coming back again and he seems to be in very good shape”, Aznar explained.

Looking ahead he added, “I hope to jump him again tomorrow, he’s very good at the Six-Bar so if I am allowed by the owners - Jean-Claude and Laetitia Viollet - I would like to do it because he already jumped quite big a few times.”
