Biography
It was thanks to her mother’s passion for horses that Laura and her sister Mary Elizabeth started to ride at a very young age. Laura was three and, although a lot of time has gone by since then, the two sisters still work together. Mary Elizabeth takes care of the stables in the United States while Laura trains and prepares the Grand Prix horses, touring the world. And to think that until the year 2000 she had never left the United States and when she was selected for the 1992 Olympic Games as the reserve rider, she had to get a passport which she already found exciting. The first time she travelled abroad was to Barcelona, Spain.
While it was young Laura’s mother who set her off with her first equestrian experiences, it was another women who transformed that passion and talent into extraordinary sporting success. This was the legendary American rider and trainer Katie Monohan-Prudent. And to keep things in the show jumping family, Laura Kraut’s partner is the British champion rider and gold medal winner at Rio 2016, Nick Skelton.
