Biography

One of the most successful riders in contemporary equestrian history, the American Mclain Ward lives north of New York City in a dream mansion including wonderful stables that combined modern features with classical looks. Mclain has been successful ever since he started to ride also thanks to a few people that influenced his career very deeply, starting from his father Barney who won the Gran Prix of Devon in 1982, exactly 20 years before the same prize was signed by his son. George Morris – show jumping legend and one of the best trainers in the world - would be another one of those persons who made Mclain the winning machine he has been during the latest competition seasons and together they share a special bond.

Mclain’s wife is also a competitive American amateur rider who shares with Mclain the love for horses and for life around them, as does little Lily – their daughter – who is already a horse owner!

In 2010, together with his Olympic mate Laura Kraut, Mclain casted in the American Tv series ‘A Rider’s Story’. He considers his two Olympic gold medals achieved in Athens and in Beijing as his best performances yet, while the horse that holds a special place in his heart is Sapphire (nicknamed Sara at home), the one who was always able to make everything seem easy and who would make audiences passionate and enthusiastic.
