Vereecke: Rome... last minute

The second day of the 90th CSIO di Roma Piazza di Siena - Master d'Inzeo began at the Galoppatoio with Prize No. 4 Safe Riding (Accumulator category with Joker, h 145, € 11,400). Fourth class in this 2023 edition, and fourth winning nation: after Brazil, France and Great Britain, it was Belgium time with Koen Veerecke, who aboard Lector vd Bisschop was clear and fast (46.20) among the 17 competitors out of 33 who grabbed the highest score (65).

Second place went to Brazilian Marlon Modolo Zanotelli with Cornest (47.63), third to Swiss Bryan Balsiger with Just Special VK (47.95). Riccardo Pisani, fourth with Otto de Kalvarie (49.24), was the best of the Italians.

Already on the podium on the first day with Lector vd Bisschop, placing third in Prize No. 1, the 53-year-old Veerecke extends the series of victorious debutants at their first participation in Piazza di Siena, after Brazilian Pedro Veniss, Frenchman Julien Epaillard and Briton Jodie Hall McAteer. However, it must be said that Veerecke with Jerome Guery found a place among the Belgian participants in Rome after Zoe Conter and Gregory Wathelet withdrew.
